Today Nova’s national Drive show, Ryan, Monty & Wippa, will attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the most callers aired on a radio station in one hour.
Ryan, Monty & Wippa have been training all week to prepare for their attempt to air 101 callers during the 5pm to 6pm hour of their show. The team’s success relies on listeners participating in the attempt by calling in for speed rounds, playing games including What Isn’t The Answer and Agree or Disagree, a segment for Sean Connery impersonators (Sean Callery) and celebrity guests Ruby Rose, Rodger Corser, Mark Beretta, Michael Klim and Danny Green will play Dialing with the Stars.
Monty said, “I’m predicting a lot of blood, sweat and tears tomorrow to snatch the record. I’m getting my name in that bloody book if it’s the last thing we ever do!”
Ryan, Monty & Wippa need to fulfill a number of guidelines in order for the World Record to be recognised including the clock can’t stop once the attempt starts and the radio show must be a live broadcast. There is no time limit to each call duration however callers must contribute to the topic of the show and provide coherent questions or opinions and presenters must respond to the conversation.
“An official world record involves witnesses so that’s why we went with our second idea for the most calls on the show in one hour instead of our original idea of the world’s tallest person..we had a really long trench coat ready to go,” said Wippa.
To verify the attempt, Ryan, Monty & Wippa have enlisted two independent witnesses including the Herald Sun’s Alice Coster while two experienced time keepers from Little Athletics Victoria will clock the hour’s proceeding. The team needs to submit all the official documentation as evidence including a transcript of the hour as evidence for the record to be validated.
Ryan added, “This is by far the most obvious attempt yet to make ourselves feel really popular. I hope no one notices.”
Ryan, Monty & Wippa’s World Record Attempt will take place on Thursday 2 September from 5pm to 6pm.
